Mexican Cartels Are Getting Desperate
Drug lords have ordered hits on U.S. border agents with drones.
The Mexican drug cartels more or less took control of the border under President Joe Biden, resulting in, among other things, a flood of the deadly drug fentanyl into the U.S. Additionally, human trafficking spiked to an all-time high, and rival cartels would fight over border real estate to smuggle over their goods.
By contrast, President Donald Trump has made securing the border his top priority. Customs and Border Patrol, the National Guard, uniformed military personnel, and the Defense Department have been working together to make the cartel industry significantly harder to manage. Trump even classified the cartels as a terrorist organization — and they are certainly living up to that new designation.
A memo has just gone out to border personnel warning that the cartels are planning on using drones rigged with explosives to attack Border Patrol agents. This memo was based on social media posts from channels the cartels frequent. According to NewsNation, “One post encourages people to assassinate ICE police, while a TikTok video tells immigrants illegally in the U.S. to spit and urinate on ICE agents’ food and defecate in their vehicles. Another post calls for the murder of local ICE agents.”
Border Patrol officers are being warned to stay alert, wear body armor, and carry a variety of first aid gear in case of an attack. Last week, several Border Patrol agents got caught in a gunfight with a gang of cartel members holed up on an island between the Mexico-U.S. border. This increased aggression seems to be the direct result of the border being locked down to their illicit activities.
But it’s also really not surprising, as this crackdown is cutting into their business. We recently reported that the House Judiciary Committee announced just how much money the Mexican drug cartels were making off the border, and it’s mind-boggling.

Tens of millions of dollars a week is enough to tempt any criminal organization into warring with the U.S. government. Perhaps they will be stupid enough to trigger the Insurrection Act of 1807, at which point the U.S. can wipe the cartels off the face of the earth.
These are some bold moves for an illicit drug organization. Hopefully, though, this is the beginning of the end of their reign of terror.
