Re: Beacons of Light in the Dark Academic Wilderness
“Thanks for this update on some major universities starting to turn the corner on DEI and racist preferences, especially at the Universities of Virginia and North Carolina. Indeed, these are beacons of light!” —Virginia
“Excellent summary on Trump’s handling of the leftists at Columbia U. When I read about $400 million in government funding at Columbia, when it has an endowment valued at $14.8 billion, you gotta wonder just exactly what it is these leftist institutions need from taxpayers across the nation. Same is true at Harvard and the other Ivy Leagues. Cut them ALL off!” —New York
“I missed Alexander’s excellent essay on Boston University sending racist provocateur Ibram X. Kendi, a.k.a. Henry Rogers, packing to Howard University — ‘his new safe space for hate,’ as Alexander put it. Wonder how much taxpayer funding Howard gets?” —California
Re: The Right Turns on Amy Coney Barrett
“This writer is the first one I’ve seen who hinted that payment for work done is justifiable as proper business conduct. If the $2 billion, regardless of the intent behind it, is owed for work performed in accordance with a contract, I don’t see how refusing to pay can be justified.” —Oregon
“This issue really lies with Congress, which authorized the payments through law, and not the Supreme Court or the executive branch. Spending bills passed by Congress and signed into law by the president ought to be enforced. Congress needs to act with dispatch and correct the spending with legislation.” —Florida
“The viciousness of so-called ‘conservatives’ in their attacks on Barrett, Roberts, and Gorsuch is shocking. Do conservatives now require political purity tests and cancellation for any heresy? I believe the conservative Supremes are setting a trap for Biden’s activist federal judge. The case was sent back to the court for procedural reasons with instructions to justify the TRO. With the well-constructed dissent by four justices, this case will be heard by the full Court if the judge cannot justify his ruling. Either way, this activist judge has been put on notice that he may not legislate from the bench. I fault conservative media for soundbite reporting rather than deeper analysis. Conservatives have to be better than this.” —Washington
Re: Is Trump Hamstringing His Own Agenda With Tariffs?
“Many tariff opponents claim tariffs are inflationary because they cause some prices to increase. Increasing prices is the inevitable result of inflation, but inflation is not the only cause of higher prices. Sometimes tariffs have little effect, such as when China can make a part for 50 cents and sell it for $15. Even with the price reduced to cover the tariff, the manufacturer still makes a huge profit. In that case, a tariff is easy revenue. But generally, matters are much more complex.” —Minnesota
Re: No, Concealed Carry Is Not a Problem
“Lies, damned lies, and statistics. Unfortunately, the truth rarely appears. Deaths by guns seldom include any person who would be limited by any law. Most gun deaths are the result of the illegal use of firearms. An armed population ensures a safe population. The result of these new attempts is not to make life more safe but to add to government controls and opposition to our Second Amendment. Enforce existing laws and you control the criminal, not the law-abiding citizen.” —Washington
Re: A Presidential Pardon for Derek Chauvin?
“I have felt this way ever since that awful verdict. This was, and has been, the biggest travesty of justice in our nation’s history. The financial settlement awarded to George Floyd’s family made me puke! A misinformed jury destroyed a man’s life. Derek Chauvin gets to spend the rest of his life in prison while Hunter Biden, who should be locked up permanently for treason, walks free a multimillionaire, thanks to a demented old man who should also be in prison forever. Barring a Trump pardon, be advised that I will gladly contribute to Mr. Chauvin’s defense fund should I ever be called upon to do so!” —Wisconsin
Re: Elon Musk’s Patriotic Selflessness
“Leftists complain about Donald Trump and Elon Musk, but neither of them had to give up their lifestyles for this country. Every true American should be grateful to Trump and Musk for trying to get us back to what this country stood for before the lunatics took over. To top it off, neither is getting a salary. How many in Congress have made millions while in office, doing nothing but enriching themselves while the rest of us pay for it?” —Alabama
