White House Presses Defunding ‘Public’ Broadcasting
The Trump administration will present a plan to Congress for ending the taxpayer funding of the Leftmedia outlets NPR and PBS.
Much of the reason the American public has lost trust in legacy media is that it has opted to promote ideological views rather than endeavor to report the news with as little bias as possible. To make things worse, some legacy media outlets have long peddled the fiction that they are unbiased and are simply sharing the truth.
Indeed, few are more guilty of blatantly peddling this “non-biased” fiction than are the taxpayer-funded outlets National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).
NPR CEO Katherine Maher demonstrated this reality before Congress last month when she ridiculously and laughably claimed, “I have never seen any instance of political bias determining editorial decisions.”
Maher’s denial of leftist bias was made in the face of the simple fact that NPR’s 87-member editorial board is without a single Republican, as former NPR veteran reporter Uri Berliner noted in his article exposing the outlet’s leftist bias.
Given this blatant tilt, conservatives have long objected to the federal government’s continued funding of both NPR and PBS. However, Republicans seemingly lack the will to do much more than voice their criticism.
Thankfully, with Donald Trump in the White House, the possibility of finally ending NPR and PBS’s taxpayer funding racket may be realized.
Last week, the White House released a report listing example after example of blatant leftist bias espoused by NPR and PBS. Titled “The NPR, PBS Grift Has Ripped Us Off for Too Long,” the report states, “For years, American taxpayers have been on the hook for subsidizing National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), which spread radical, woke propaganda disguised as ‘news.’”
The report highlights instances of bias going back years. Of specific interest, the report notes examples of woke ideology, such as “white privilege.” The report cited an example from 2017 in which PBS produced a movie celebrating a teenager’s “changing gender identity.”
Other examples on the list include NPR running a story titled “Cannibalism: It’s ‘Perfectly Natural.’” In 2020, NPR aired a segment focusing on the “racial origins of fat phobia.” Who knew that aversion to getting fat was racist? The following year, NPR featured a story claiming that “animals deserve pronouns, too.” And NPR dedicated a Valentine’s Day special last year to “nonbinary deer” and other “queer” animals.
Along with the report, the White House introduced a plan to eliminate “all” taxpayer funding for NPR and PBS. This week, the White House is expected to deliver that plan, which, according to a White House official, will request that lawmakers cut $9.3 billion in spending, out of which the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which oversees NPR and PBS, receives its funding.
Predictably, PBS has responded by doubling down on the false claim that the media outlet is non-biased. As PBS CEO Paula Kerger asserted, “There’s nothing more American than PBS.” However, for anyone who has ever spent any time watching PBS, that statement completely lacks self-awareness. Beyond the question of leftist bias, nearly half of the programs on PBS are British-made.
To put the political bias in perspective, imagine if all of NPR’s programs featured hosts like Ben Shapiro and Clay Travis. Would Democrats not be crying bloody murder over the blatant right-wing bias? Indeed, they have long cried foul that Rush Limbaugh was ever permitted to have a program on AM radio stations across the country in the first place.
It’s long past time for NPR and PBS to take off the “nonprofit” mask and honestly be the Leftmedia outlets we all know they are. If enough people want to watch and listen to what they are peddling, then they can pay for it. Otherwise, not one more taxpayer dime should go to these propagandists.
