Democrats Keep Doubling Down on Crazy
Keep it up, Democrats. We’re not sick of winning yet.
Because American politics is all-too-often a binary system of good versus bad, while policy positions are often blurred into total obscurity and alliances prove more unreliable than the latest Chinese AI product, one thing remains true: there is always a winner and a loser.
Following the 2016 election, Donald Trump was the winner, and Hillary Clinton was the loser. I know we all remember, but it’s just so much fun to say. In 2020, Joe Biden was the winner, and Donald Trump was the loser; and then in 2024, Donald Trump was the winner, and Kamala Harris was the loser. Again, that’s just so much fun to say.
And because of this system of winners and losers, in order to go from a loser to a winner, it’s important to reflect on why you lost. Yes, in the aftermath of 2020, an absurd amount of energy was given to election denial, but for every “the election was stolen” effort, there were numerous initiatives that improved on not only the 2020 campaign but also Trump’s first term in office. Messaging was clear, whether it be on the economy, the border or foreign policy. Trump was disciplined — well, more disciplined than before. And those around him were comparatively, well, grown up.
And thanks — at least in part — to this reflection and change, Trump won back the presidency.
This leads me to ask: Will Democrats do the same?
After all, their victory in 2020 was primarily based on the nation’s response to COVID-19 and a feeling of Trump-based exhaustion. To put it simply, Trump lost the election more than Biden won it. But in 2024, the Democratic Party didn’t have a global (and hugely politicized) pandemic to hide behind, and they were instead forced to run on their own platform of economic disaster, an illegal immigration crisis and worldwide conflict.
In a serious world, a Democratic Party that wants to win would look at their hand-picked DEI candidate, Kamala Harris, and realize that their woke strategy doesn’t work. They would realize that the vast majority of Americans do not support the relentless scolding of transgender-, sexuality- and race-obsessed identity politics. They would look at colleagues like Sen. John Fetterman and realize that sane positions like “terrorism is bad” are actually the way to go.
Is this what they’re doing? No. Instead, Democrats have chosen David Hogg — a screeching activist who rode tragedy to Harvard despite his inability to spell — as the vice chair of the Democratic National Committee.
The same David Hogg who called for ICE to be abolished, for the police to be defunded, for the NRA to be designated as a terrorist organization.
And perhaps the funniest David Hogg quote of all: “I’m one of the most politically toxic people in the country and I’m too radical for American politics. No, I’m not running for office. We have enough straight white men in power. It’d be nice to see some people who actually look like our country and not privilege.”
After losing to Donald Trump — whose entire campaign was built on making America normal again — what have the Democrats done? They’ve rallied behind a self-professed radical who self-flagellates for his unforgivable whiteness on his way to power.
Keep it up, Democrats. We’re not sick of winning yet.
