Injunctions galore, Trump interviewed by Goldberg, illegal alien-harboring judge arrested, and more.
- Injunctions galore: On Thursday, Donald Trump’s administration was hit by another wave of court injunctions. In Washington, DC, U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly blocked Trump’s order requiring proof of citizenship to vote, asserting that he short-circuited “Congress’s deliberative process by executive order.” In San Francisco, U.S. District Judge William H. Orrick, an Obama appointee, ruled that Trump’s EO to withhold taxpayer dollars from “sanctuary” cities that refuse to cooperate with ICE officials somehow violated both the Fifth and 10th Amendments. In New Hampshire, U.S. District Court Judge Landya McCafferty ruled that Trump’s EO directing the Education Department to withhold funding from public schools that push DEI was “unconstitutionally vague” and violated the First Amendment. The president’s opponents have increasingly found effective means of blocking his agenda via activist judges.
Dumping disparate impact: President Donald Trump signed seven executive orders Wednesday aimed at disrupting the Left’s chokehold on education. One deals with the supposed “disparate impact” approach to civil rights, and the other is a restoration of “common sense school discipline policies.” The two are related. Barack Obama’s administration began the trend of digging up “racism” by pointing to statistics showing that blacks or other minorities were disproportionately disciplined, regardless of the behavior that merited the discipline. Rather than acknowledging that a myriad of familial and cultural factors led, at this historical moment, to more misbehavior from minorities, Team Obama called it “disparate impact” so as to make Americans ashamed at how “systemic racism” had infected every facet of education. Channeling Martin Luther King’s dream, Trump is changing that by “ensuring school discipline policies are based on objective behavior, not DEI.” Character, not color.
Trump interviewed by Goldberg: It’s no secret that Donald Trump relishes taking on his biggest detractors. But sitting down for a private dinner with Bill Maher is one thing; agreeing to an interview with one of the biggest hoax-peddling leftist journalists out there is another. Yesterday, Trump announced an interview with The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg. As Trump noted, Goldberg is “the person responsible for many fictional stories about me, including the made-up HOAX on ‘Suckers and Losers’ and, SignalGate.” So, why did Trump agree to this? “I am doing this interview out of curiosity,” he explained, “and as a competition with myself, just to see if it’s possible for The Atlantic to be ‘truthful.’” Well, we’ll soon find out. Exit question: Can you imagine Joe Biden sitting for such a hostile interview?
Trump targets ActBlue: One of the Democrat Party’s biggest fundraising outfits is in hot water. Just last month, a number of senior staff resigned from ActBlue over reports of internal turmoil. Well, that internal turmoil may, in fact, be caused by serious corruption concerns. Yesterday, Donald Trump signed a memo directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to launch an investigation into ActBlue over allegations of illegal fundraising methods. Trump wants the DOJ to crack down on illegal “straw donors” and foreigners who seek to influence U.S. elections by pumping funds into political campaigns. It is unlawful for foreign nationals to contribute funds to American elections.
Illegal alien-harboring judge arrested: The home of New Mexico Judge Jose “Joel” Cano was raided by federal agents on Thursday. Cano and his wife were arrested and charged with harboring an illegal alien and evidence tampering. Cano had resigned his judgeship in March after an ICE arrest the month prior of a Venezuelan illegal alien and suspected Tren de Aragua gang member, Cristhian Ortega-Lopez, who had been living in the judge’s guest house. It now appears that Cano knew who Ortega-Lopez was and about his criminal involvement in human trafficking. “Doña Ana County has been a hotbed of illegal immigration and drug trafficking, human smuggling for many, many years,” observed former ICE Field Office Director John Fabbricatore. “To see that a judge would allow this to happen. It’s very concerning. … What else has the judge been doing?”
DNC acts against Hogg: A civil war has been brewing among Democrat Party leaders since Donald Trump’s decisive election victory. Effectively, it is a battle for control of the party between the Left and the radical Left. In an effort to appease the party’s young, more radical leftist base, the Democratic National Committee elected David Hogg as vice chair. But rather than appeasing the Dems’ radicals, it only further empowered and emboldened them. Hogg, instead of aiming his criticism at Republicans and Donald Trump, has instead focused on Democrat lawmakers who aren’t radical enough, pledging $20 million in efforts to primary them. It appears the DNC old guard has had enough of Hogg’s fratricide, prompting DNC Chair Ken Martin to give Hogg an ultimatum: Stop the primary gambit or lose his seat. However, according to reports, Hogg is willing to lose his seat to keep up his fight. Time to grab some popcorn and enjoy the show.
Fast-tracking mining: With China, the world’s leading producer of rare earth minerals, severely limiting exports to the U.S. due to the ongoing trade war, Donald Trump has fast-tracked efforts to mine these resources within the U.S. With this goal in mind, the Trump administration will be using a permitting tool, courtesy of the bipartisan Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act, that allows for the streamlining of permits and approvals for mining. The administration has targeted 10 projects for the rapid approval process, with more to be added soon. A senior White House official explained, “There are projects that have languished or stalled for years, sometimes decades, and it’s because of government bureaucracy getting in the way. The president has made it very clear that we need to move projects forward that are going to help the American people and make America energy dominant.”
