Take the L, Democrats
For some unfathomable reason, they just can’t let go of woke.
In the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election, one thing is clear: woke lost, DEI is dead, and the transgender agenda is on its last legs.
The subject of wokeness provided Donald Trump’s campaign with a perfect strategy: in the rare cases where people grew tired of hearing about Joe Biden’s failing economy, Joe Biden’s chaotic open border policy or Joe Biden’s obsession with setting the world on fire, Trump and his team could always fall back on talking about men beating women in women’s sports, children being forced to learn about gay sex or the fact that Kamala Harris became the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee because she was a Black woman.
Why? Because these were — to varying degrees — hugely popular positions. More importantly, they remain hugely popular positions. For example, one poll from February 2025 showed that nearly 80% of Americans don’t support men competing in women’s sports. That number was up from 67% during 2023.
Is there any other issue in American life that is quite so cut-and-dried?
But now, the election is over, and we are in the midst of the first year of Trump’s second administration. If the Democratic Party was in any way smart, they’d be focusing on the issue that lost them the election last November and could derail Trump’s presidency: the economy. Joe Biden is a thing of the past, they could say, while pointing to the undeniable chaos that has exploded throughout the American (and global) economy thanks to Trump’s bizarre penchant for not-so-reciprocal tariffs.
But — Republicans will be glad to hear — the Democratic Party is not smart.
Because for some unfathomable reason, they just can’t let go of woke.
While practically the entire nation opposes men competing with women in women’s sports, and while female athletes refuse to compete with male athletes who have wiggled their way into female competition — what did John Oliver do, for example? He dedicated an entire show to arguing that men don’t have a competitive advantage in the world of sports!
Either John Oliver is just that unathletic, or he needs to get his eyes checked.
But Republicans should be happy! Even though they have won (for now) on the issue of woke — both through executive action and in the arena of public opinion — Democrats and their media mouthpieces just won’t take the loss and move on. What does that mean? Republicans can keep campaigning on a winning issue, while ignoring their current failure to deliver on economic progress.
It’s a win-win … for politicians. Less so for voters.
Over the weekend, CNN’s chief media analyst, Brian Stelter, announced that he’d found “at least 50 ‘trans’ references” on the Fox News channel since Trump announced his latest tariff agenda.
But why not? You’re honestly surprised that Republican guests on Fox News would rather talk about a reliable winning issue that Democrats refuse to concede?
If you want Republicans to stop talking about “trans” issues, here’s an idea: Accept you lost the war over woke, and move on. Trust me, there’s plenty more to talk about.
