Supremely Odd

I pray that the Left’s intimidation effort has not caused the buckling of the knees of three conservative justices.

There was a deeply troubling and disappointing decision from the Supreme Court issued at 1:00 AM Saturday night. The ruling temporarily stopped the Trump administration from carrying out deportations of illegal aliens under the Alien Enemies Act until the Supreme Court has a chance to issue a final judgment.

The ruling is odd because the court just recently upheld the administration’s authority to carry out deportations under the act. Justices Alito and Thomas dissented from the weekend’s sudden reversal.

Here’s something I am praying and hoping is not true: That the Left’s effort to intimidate the conservative majority has caused the buckling of the knees of three conservative justices.

They have been subjected to death threats and mobs protesting in front of their homes. A law was passed massively increasing their security because of the explosion of threats against them and their families.

An assassin, soaked in all of the Left’s bile, went to Justice Kavanaugh’s house to kill him. That was the purpose of the intimidation. And if the threat of violence has succeeded, it would be a tragedy for the justices personally and for our nation.

A Big Victory?

On the other hand, legal expert John Yoo is suggesting that the Supreme Court may deliver a big victory to President Trump on the subject of rogue district court judges.

As you know, President Trump issued an executive order ending birthright citizenship. That is the “rule” that a child born to illegal alien parents in the United States is automatically a citizen of the United States.

President Trump knew that the Left would challenge his order. And, as surely as night follows day, multiple district court judges immediately issued nationwide injunctions or temporary restraining orders preventing enforcement of Trump’s birthright citizenship order.

In response, the White House filed emergency appeals, advancing the case all the way to the Supreme Court. Late Thursday afternoon, the high court announced that it has scheduled oral arguments in this case for May 15th, which is extraordinarily late to hear arguments given that the court’s term ends in June.

Yoo and other legal experts believe the justices took this case and scheduled arguments on May 15th because they want to quickly address the issue of nearly 700 district court judges getting out of their lane and assuming authority over the president’s power to conduct foreign policy, manage the executive branch, and enforce our immigration laws.

It’s possible the Supreme Court could give Trump a major victory by preventing left-wing district court judges from paralyzing the administration through the unprecedented use of nationwide injunctions. At the same time, it’s possible that the president might lose the argument on birthright citizenship. Or he could win both.

But reining in rogue judges alone would be a huge victory.

Pope Francis, R.I.P.

Many of us woke up Monday morning to the news that Pope Francis had died. Vice President J. D. Vance, who met with Francis Sunday, is believed to have been the last world leader to meet with the pope.

I jokingly suggested yesterday that the Left will blame Vance for the pope’s death. Well, sure enough, over in the fevered swamps of the Left, there are claims that Vance killed the pontiff.

President Trump, who had a famously combative relationship with the pope, wrote Monday morning, “Rest in Peace, Pope Francis! May God Bless him and all who loved him!”

At the White House Monday morning, Trump praised Francis, saying he was “a very good man who loved, loved the world, and he especially loved people that were having a hard time, and that’s good with me.” President Trump also ordered flags to be flown at half-staff until the day of the pope’s internment.

Pope Francis was a controversial figure, often hailed for his “progressive views.” I am not Catholic, but I know that many Catholics, even those who vehemently disagreed with him, will mourn the passing of the pope.

While Pope Francis was known for his support of open borders, criticism of capitalism, and his embrace of climate change hysteria, those are opinions that Catholics have no obligation to agree with.

What is far less known about Francis is that he staunchly defended traditional church teaching on the sanctity of life and the uniqueness of men and women. Francis did not hesitate to condemn abortion as “murder” and once referred to abortionists as “hitmen.”

As for gender ideology, Pope Francis condemned it as “one of the most dangerous ideological colonizations… Because it blurs differences and the value of men and women.”

And while the 88 year-old pope was celebrated for his embrace of some leftist views, young Catholics are increasingly conservative and traditional.

Remembering Our History

Many Americans were thrilled with President Trump’s public celebrations of Passover and Easter at the White House last week. But our secular elites were not so happy. Sadly, they know very little of our nation’s history and its deep religious heritage or they simply reject that heritage.

For example, today is “In God We Trust” Day. While it’s not a federally recognized holiday, it celebrates the incorporation of “In God We Trust” on our currency.

During the Civil War, pastors petitioned the secretary of the Treasury to include “the recognition in some form of the Almighty God” on our coins. On April 22, 1864, Congress passed a law instructing the phrase “In God We Trust” to be added to a new two-cent coin.

A year later, a new law was passed adding the phrase to even more coins. In 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt signed legislation adding “In God We Trust” to all U.S. coins.

There are numerous verses in the Bible that encourage us to trust in God. For example:

Jeremiah 17:7“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD.”

Proverbs 3:5 – “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”

Psalm 20:7“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.”

Psalm 56:3–4 – “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.”

Romans 8:28 – “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose.”

It’s a good reminder that our faith is not in money, but in the God of the Bible.

Left-wing Lunacy

There was a demonstration in London over the weekend protesting last week’s ruling by the British Supreme Court that “sex is binary, a person is either a man or a woman.” Not surprisingly, statues of suffragettes, champions of women’s rights, were vandalized.

But the other major topic at the protest was somewhat surprising – “Palestine.”

One speaker told the crowd, “We need to connect with the Palestine movement, the strongest shining light in this dark time that says no to hopelessness, no to cynicism, no to nihilism, and says yes to justice, freedom, and liberation.”  Others chanted, “One struggle, one fight: Palestine! Trans rights!”

This demonstration perfectly encapsulates the absolute lunacy that dominates today’s Left!

But I suppose if you can’t tell the difference between a man and a woman, you won’t be able to tell the difference between barbarians (Hamas) and a truly tolerant society (Israel.) The barbarians, however, will not hesitate to clarify things, as they frequently do.

Last year, an organization offered $1 million to any group willing to hold a “gay pride” march in Gaza or the West Bank. It was a legitimate offer, not a joke or a publicity stunt. But they didn’t get any takers.
